Using public Wi-Fi has implications on personal privacy and confidentiality. The public needs to continue being safe about how it communicates over the public internet and consider whether it is worth using it without any protection. The risks that are associated with using public Wi-Fi are not only in one area rather it is nationwide and even globally. According to (Sanger & Barnes, 2021) The issue is a national one and the U.S government has warned people about the negative risks that come with the use of public Wi-Fi. There should be more information given to the general public about the major risks involved with using public WIFI networks. People can put their own and other people’s important information at risk because of their carelessness on what networks they connect to. Being a hacker on a public Wi-fi network is unethical and not legal however people still choose to break the rules and invade other’s privacy for their benefit. So, when a person decides to connect to a public Wi-Fi network in a public place, they cannot do anything to alter the network other than join it (“How To Safely Use Public Wi-Fi Networks.”, 2021). Since Public Wi-Fi is extremely prevalent in many public establishment’s customers are demanding better and faster high-speed internet. In turn, those establishments while trying to meet the demands of the public are ignoring taking necessary precautions that come with having such public Wi-Fi networks. As claimed by Virgillito (2021), also since Legally, people can just join any random public WIFI network and they can’t alter the network for their safety that puts them in danger.
