Introduction

Technology is a reality of modern era and the information age we live in today. Technology is described by Merriam Webster as “the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area” [7]. In this paper, we will be discussing whether computer and online or internet technology empowers or disenfranchises certain ethnic, social, or socio-economic groups and if technological literacy is as important as other basic skills such as reading, writing and math. In addition, we will also discuss what society can do to ensure equal access to technology. The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of technology on society, understand what technological literacy is and to come up with solutions to make internet technology available to the public.
