Sessoms

An interesting fact about the Sessoms family is the African American heritage link with the Lumbee Indians of North Carolina. Many Sessoms family members currently live in Lumberton, NC. "In 1885, the tribe was recognized as Indian by the state of North Carolina. The tribe has sought full federal recognition from the United States Government since 1888. In 1956, Congress passed the Lumbee Act, which recognized the tribe as Indian. http://www.lumbeetribe.com/History_Culture/History_Culture%20Index.html

Palmer

The Palmer family originates from both northern and southern Italy. The maternal family side is from Palermo, Italy. Sebastiano Comparato and Marianna were Nanny Vi's (Vita Patrone) parents. Her mother was born in Ciminna, Sicily in Italy and may have come to America in the early 1800s on a ship such as the Oregon.
