About Me

My name is Michael (Mike) Karcic, and I am currently a senior at George Mason University, with a planned graduation in the spring of 2013. I am going to school in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Web Design and Multimedia. Photo of Michael Karcic For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with technology. It amazes me how technology works, how quickly it evolves, and how big of a part it is to our everyday lives. It is such a large part of our society today, and I have always wanted to be a part of its evolution, which is the reason why I declared Information Technology as my major when I was accepted into George Mason.

After being accepted into George Mason, I was caught off guard with the drastic difference in the course structure and workload of classes. I was unable to adapt to these changes, which led me to do poorly during my first year of college. However, during my sophomore year, I had a more positive mindset, and became much more determined to academically improve. I had developed a new work ethic which enabled me to excel in my studies, and improve my GPA. I am proud of the work I do in school, and I pride myself in my recent Dean’s List accomplishment in the fall semester of 2011.

Outside of school, I have worked at various jobs starting when I was in high school. The first job I held was a lifeguard position. I had much responsibility with this position over the two years in which I held it, but gained much experience, as opposed to just monetary compensation. Other jobs which I held throughout high school include: soccer refereeing, busing tables a restaurant, and bagging groceries at a local grocery stores. Upon graduating from high school, I realized that I would be living on campus for my freshman year of college, it would be best for me to acquire a job which required less hours so I would be able to concentrate more on my studies at school. I decided that becoming a food delivery boy would be a good job to keep throughout college, since only 12-15 hours are required per week. I plan to keep this as my current job until I graduate, and begin my search for a new career. In addition to the work experiences listed above, I also completed my first internship in the field of Information Technology this past summer. I worked at a self-owned company, Leaf Technologies, as a computer technician. Although much of the work carried out here was prior knowledge to me, it provided me the opportunity to get hours of hands on experience to become more efficient at tasks which needed to be carried out.

After graduating from college, I plan to acquire a position in the field of IT. Realistically, I hope to get a job dealing with technical support. I would use this job to gain hands on experience, in hopes to gain a position which I would desire more. I am truly excited for what the future will bring to me.
