About Me

Student Life

I am a third year Ph.D. student, currently working on my second Qualifying Paper. I am interested in how social factors such as language environments can influence language use, and aim to study these effects using Sociolinguistic, Phonetic, and Computational methods. My current research is under the supervision of Dr. Matthew C. Kelley.

My current research interests are inspired by my real life experience of trying to learn Japanese while being raised in the United States, as a half-Japanese American.

At George Mason University (GMU) I am a member of the Mason Phonetics and Phonology Lab led by Dr. Matthew C. Kelley, and the Computational Linguistics Lab led by Dr. Géraldine Walther. I am also currently the Fall 2025 to Spring 2026 Secretary of the GMU Linguistics Society. For the past three years I have worked as a Research Assistant in the Computational Linguistics Lab.

I received my Master’s degree at the University of Florida in Linguistics in 2021.

Personal Life

I have been living in Virginia for three years now after growing up in Florida. In that time I have enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas and attempting to capture interesting things around me using one of my preferred hobbies: photography. Some of my favorite photos are below.

My other hobbies include going to bookstores (new and secondhand) and adding to my to be read collection, listening to and/or reading books, listening to music, and learning movie trivia. Occasionally I can find myself crocheting a blanket or two, or if I’m feeling very adventurous a scarf! In the future I hope to explore my photography interests by learning how to do basic photo edits.
