2024 Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship
Program (ASSIP)
Two high school students (Tejas Venkatesh
and Allison Yutong Lin) participated in ASSIP program this summer are
performing chemical experiments in Dr. Jing's lab at GMU. They were
actively involved in two independent but interconnected research
projects mentored together by Dr. Jing and his doctoral student Au Lac
Nguyen. Great work!

of the annual Research Group Olympics: PumpCHEM Patch Competition this
year! Smart Design and Illuminating Pumpkin (the one at the bottom right
corner made of nanoparticles with different shapes and
morphologies)!!!

eyes: Au@Cu2-xSe nano-crescent; pumpkin nose: Au
nano-triangles; pumpkin mouth: Au@AgPd nano-rattles;
pumpkin face: NaYF4 upconversion nanocrystals; most
important, we can light this pumpkin when turning the near-infrared
laser on.
Mariia Ivanchenko's Dissertation Defense
Mariia successfully passed her
dissertation defense on September 6, 2023!!! Congratulations to Dr.
Ivanchenko!

Dr. Jing gave an oral presentation on the
plasmonic nanostructures at ACS MARM meeting on June 09th, 2023 in
Materials Chemistry Session held at the City University of New York

Undergraduate students
oral presentations at Fairfax campus on May 8th. Quinn and Alison
presented their fantastic experimental results on the projects of chiral
plasmonic nanoparticles and plasmonic photothermal nanostructures. Well
done!
2023 MRS Spring Meeting at San Francisco
Dr. Jing delivered an oral talk in 2023
MRS Spring conference at San Francisco, CA on April 13th in the
symposium of Active Plasmonics I (EL05.06) hosted by Prof. Svetlana
Neretina.
2023 ACS Spring Meeting at Indy
Dr. Jing and Mariia gave oral and poster
presentations in 2023 ACS National Meeting at Indianapolis,
respectively! Matthew (Dr. Greg Foster's group), Cooper (Dr. Greg
Foster's group), EM and Aaron (both in Dr. Benoit Van Aken's group) also
represented Mason by participating in poster sessions. Great get
together!
Fairfax County Regional Science &
Engineering Fair 2023
Dr. Jing attended the Fairfax County
Regional Science and Engineering Fair in person as a chemistry category
judge hosted at James W. Robinson Secondary School on March 18th, 2023.
