Pre-Webpage Building Stage

Important Questions to Ask Yourself Before Building a Website
  • What is the purpose of your website? (Informational, Educational, Marketing Business, etc.)

  • What do you want visitors to do once they are at your site? (Learn, Submit Info, Become a Member, Purchase Something, etc.)

  • How are you going to monitor the results of your website? (Web Site Analytics, Google Analytics, Visitor Tracking Tools, etc.)

  • How are you going to get people to come back to your site? (Email Marketing, eNewsletters, Direct Mail, etc.)

  • Who “specifically” is this website for? Be very specific; your website's effectiveness depends on your answers. (Male or Female, Young or Old, Educational Level, etc.)

  • What content do you need to build the site? (Images, Videos, Multimedia, Written Content, etc.)

Things to Keep in Mind Moving Forward
  • Be honest with yourself about your skill set and what you can technically do. It's good to be ambitious, but you do not want to overwhelm yourself with trying to bite off more than you can chew.

  • Be patient, HTML and CSS can be confusing and frustrating to learn, but there are plenty of resources out there to aid in your website authoring and design.

  • Don't be afraid to look at other people's code and use it as well. This is a good way to see how certain elements are successfully coded, and to help you understand where you may have gone wrong in your coding.

  • Clearly outline the end goals or objectives for your website, and keep your targeted audience and users in mind when making layout and design decisions.
