A Few Things to Take Note of Before Going to GMU Bookstore to Buy Materials for STAT 554

• Be sure to read this in order to better make sure that STAT 554 is the right course for you.
• Read this in order to learn about the various books.
• Before buying any of the Minitab materials, I'll advise reading this. It should be noted that one does not have to buy any of the Minitab items, but that many students have in the past found it convenient to buy/rent and use the Windows version of Minitab as opposed to the mainframe version (for which you don't need to buy anything).
  • In particular, note that if you buy the Minitab software bundled with the manual in a single shrinkwarp package, then you won't need the Minitab Handbook (which is just documentation without the actual software), and if you plan to use Minitab on the mainframe then you can get buy without buying any of the Minitab items.
  • Also, be aware that you can use the Windows version of Minitab in the GMU computing labs for free (but the labs are not always open to you due to them being sometimes reserved for classes).
• Finally, I'll warn you that the GMU bookstore can be very poorly organized at times, and so please look carefully (or ask bookstore personnel about availability) if you can't find what you want. Although the STAT 554 materials should be in the STAT section of the shelves, it may be the case that not all of the STAT 554 books are grouped together. (The class notes should be on the shelf with the rest of the STAT 554 material. You should ask for the notes if you don't see them ... if they run out, they don't make more unless people ask for them. (Read here for more information about the notes.))
