About Us
First opened as a gas station in the Spring of 1957, Appalachian Market was a simple mom-and-pop store founded by Randy Donaldson and his wife, Abigil. Strategically located near I-64 Highway close to the Virginia border, yet remote from any shopping centers and stores, the market found quick success selling sodas and snacks to tourists and sight-seers looking to stock up for their road trip. Abigail began baking and selling in-house cookies and cakes which flew off the shelves as well. Noticing their quick-found success, local farmer friends of the Donaldson's began requesting the sell their prouduce at the market, which they happily agreed to. No longer a gas station, the Appalachian Market is now a store that prides itself in offering fresh meats and produce allocated to us from local farmers of the Appalachian region. We also have inside service at our deli offering delcious breakfast and lunch sandwiches. If your craving something sweet, our bakery makes warm and delicious pies, cakes, donuts and breads from scratch. Alwayss serving our community, we host seasonal events and meetups that are sure the entertain the whole family. Wheter a native or a tourist, we are sure you will find plenty to love here at Appalahian Market.
