Your colors are important. Be sure to do plenty of experimenting with your choices; as good as one layout may look, be sure to try some others and come back if nothing looks better.

Adobe has a fantastic tool for picking a color scheme.

It works just to help you find the hex code of your chosen color, but it will also help you create a scheme. Depending on your setting, it will tell you the complimentary color to your chosen color, or even a split complimentary palette. Spend some time playing with this if you aren’t sure where to start.
