When I joined the PhD Program in 2005, Leadership was not in my plans!  I had always been an excellent follower and saw no need to change.  Little by little, professors have gently nudged, activities have planted seeds, and courses have given me the tools and skills to begin to know that I am leadership material!  EDUC 800 - Ways of Knowing, introduced different ways of thinking and encouraged me to immerse myself in another’s mind.  It is vital for a leader to understand others and how they think.  In EDUC 802 - Leadership Seminar, we learned how to recognize leaders and non-leaders. EDUC 805 - Doctoral Seminar in Education was filled with educational leaders in many different areas of education.  EDIT 747 - Technology and Teacher Education, allowed us to adopt leadership roles in the peer review process.  In EDSE 841- Intervention Research in Special Education, introduced us to hundreds of leaders who are changing lives through their research.  In my professional job, ACPS Substitute Orientations to Special Education gave me a chance to practice leadership skills while helping the participants get tiny experiences of disabilities through simulation created in EDIT 705 - Instructional Design.
