Spider WebWeb Authoring and Design

When crafting a website, the first thing to consider is the creation of a layout that addresses the needs of your target audience. The first and most obvious step to doing this is to identify your audience!

The layout determines how the information you're presenting is organized and arranges content in such way so that the flow of that information naturally leads the audience to the conclusions desired by the web author.

Website Layout

As a web author, the best practice is to arrange your content in easily digestable sections, making each section accessible through some form of navigation. In the case of this website, we use a navigation bar at the top to easily denote the content segments of the site. Clicking on each navigation component takes us to the content.

The content pane provides a simple window in which we can post the content clicked through to by the target audience member.

Typically, you will also provide a header and footer to encapsulate both the navigation and content panes in an aesthetically pleasing manner. This promotes a sense of understanding in the audience member's mind as to where the site's primary information starts and where it ends.
