Welcome!

This 'electronic guide' aims to disseminate modern information about Earth's climate through geological time. Pointers explore basic aspects of climate variability and variation, and lead to supporting geological evidence in major Internet-based public repositories. The eGuide also contains advanced instructional tutorials for online examination of hot-button paleoclimate research issues. Links to many additional resources are also given.

Climate Zones and Drivers

Explore the world climate zones and the principal climate drivers (the Sun, greenhouse gases, albedo, feedbacks)

Climate Variations and Variability

Learn about known climate variations over timescales ranging from annual to more
than 100 million years.

Earth's Climate History

Tour the climates of the past, Earth's greenhouse-icehouse modes, orbitally forced climates and climate extremes.

The Paleoclimate Archives

Access major climate proxy databases used in modern paleoclimate analysis (continental, marine, cryosphere)

Virtual Research

Conduct online research projects to enhance your understanding of climate processes and behavior.

Additional Resources

Other websites with information, tools and data that pertain to the study of Earth's paleoclimate record.

The eGuide to Paleoclimates was designed primarily as a resource tool for Johns Hopkins University students enrolled in 270.377-Climates of the Past. Since there are features contained in the website that may be of value to others, we have elected to maintain the eGuide in the public domain.
