Computer Technology and Medicine
Background
Biomedical engineers have taken advantage of technology and applied it to medical equipment used today in doctor’s offices and hospitals. Most of the equipment used is run by a computer, such as diagnosis machines, emergency alarm systems, monitoring equipment, and imaging machines (Oak, 2008). Technology is essential as it allows for safety equipment monitoring vital life signs to alert medical personnel in case of a medical emergency. These monitoring systems are pre-programmed with instructions to alert doctors when there is an emergency. This technology eliminates the need to have hospital doctors and nurses in rooms, constantly monitoring patients. It allows staff to move freely about the hospital to treat others while still keeping track of vital signs and the condition of their patients. Computer technology is a means of making processes more convenient and efficient.
