Welcome to Nanosynthesis,
Optics & Energy Lab (NOEL)
The NOEL is
located in the Planetary Hall 406, Department of Chemistry and
Biochemistry, George Mason University-Fairfax campus.
Our current
research is primarily centered on the design and development of novel
plasmonic and rare-earth upconversion nanomaterials taking advantage of physical chemistry approaches for a broad
range of applications, including but not limited to catalysis,
nanomedicine and sensing with the ultimate goal of gaining deep
scientific insights to structure-property relationship.
We
welcome highly motivated young scientists to join our group to create
new wonders in chemistry world with passion and enthusiasms!
Dr. Jing received the highly
prestigious American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund New
Directions (ACS PRF-ND) grant in October 2024! Congratulations!!
Caroline attended ACS Fall meeting in
Denver, CO and won Outstanding Student Poster Award! Huge

Dr. Jing was selected as a winner of
the prestigious 2024 university-wide Teaching Excellence Award (TEA)

Samuel Bernard Jeffrey joins our
research group as a Master student and Sam will complete CHEM 796

Mariia successfully defended her PhD
dissertation on

Dr. Jing will give an oral talk about
plasmonic nanostructures with tunable optical and photocatalytic
properties in Materials Chemistry Program at ACS MARM meeting on
June 9th, 2023 held in the City University of New York.
Mariia was selected on May 22nd to
participate in the Accelerate to Industry (A2i) Immersion Week
program at North Carolina State University July 17th - July 21st.

Our manuscript on the topic of noble
metal-copper chalcogenide dual plasmonic hetero-nanoarchitectures
has been accepted for publication in Chemistry of Materials
on April 20, 2023! More exciting news is that the art work was
selected as the Front Cover of Chemistry of Materials!

Dr. Jing gave an oral presentation
at 2023 MRS Spring meeting in San Francisco, CA on April 13 in the
symposium of Active Plasmonics I (EL05.06) organized by Prof.

Dr. Jing was invited by American
University to deliver an oral talk in person on dual plasmonic

Dr. Jing attended the winter
commencement ceremony together with the chair Dr. Gerald
Weatherspoon and the first PhD student Dr. Andrew J. Evangelista on

After participating in REU
(Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program at Department of
Chemistry in Rice University, Alison was invited to give an oral
presentation by Rice on her summer research results at the
undergraduate students research symposium. Well done!!
Mariia's paper published in Nanoscale
Advances (Anisotropic dual-plasmonic hetero-nanostructures
with tunable plasmonic coupling effects)
was selected for inclusion in the 2022 Popular Advances Collection.
