Computer “Facts Finder” Project

Introduction:

Mr. Stephenson, The Chairman of the Board, has hired you as an Assistant Producer for his top rated morning show, The Today Show at Farmwell.   One of the responsibilities of an Assistant Producer is to check facts that will be used in “On Air” stories.  During next weeks’ shows, there will be an hour long special about Mr. Stephenson’s opening of the Computer and Technology History Museum. There are a lot of exhibits and information that need verification.  Get the FACTS.  If they are wrong, the show will lose credibility and the ratings may suffer.  This is an important job.  Be thorough, do the research and document the sources.  By doing so, the show can prove where they got the information.  Remember, it is useful to use two sites to be sure the information is correct and credible.  Once you have completed the questions, you will need to create a presentation that you will deliver to brief the Staff on what you have found.    A promotion to producer will be offered if the facts check out. Good luck!!!

Tasks:

As the Assistant Producer, you will be responsible for turning in two deliverables: 1) the Computer “Facts Finder” spreadsheet.  This will be your information base for your power point; 2) the Power Point briefing.  This will be presented to the production staff prior to the airing of the next week’s show.

Processes and Resources:

Process I—Download the excel spreadsheet:

You will be using Excel.  To download the file, click HERE.   Open the file and save it as “Lastname_ComputerFactsFinder.xls in your keyboarding folder.  The spreadsheet has been formatted for you.   Please fill out your name, date, and block on the upper left hand corner of the spreadsheet.

Please read over the questions, then explore the sites above to research and document your answers.

Process III—Create a Power point presentation from the information that you have gathered.  It should have a standard background for each slide, 2 or more graphics per slide, bulleted text (your choice of text).  See the requirements rubric for more information.

Conclusions:

The computer facts web quest is a design task that requires learners to create two computer history/ technology facts products: 1) Fact Finder spreadsheet and; 2) the Power point briefing.  It “accomplishes a pre-determined goal and works within specified constraints.” (http://webquest.sdsu.edu/taskonomy.html)
