Students Center for Innovations

Primary Goal: Foster/nurture ideas; help inspire/instill creativity

Secondary Goals: Bring ideas to life; design, build, market and/or patent ideas; enter contests

Background: All clubs, organizations and even businesses come up with new ideas or improve existing ones in order to solve problems, improve a process, and the like. However, these ideas focus around a particular field or limited set of subjects. The purpose of this club is to allow, as much as possible, people’s imagination flourish with ideas that, ideally, make people’s lives easier or more enjoyable. This club wants to take in people from all type of backgrounds – artists, lawyers, engineers, to name a few – and bring them together to come up with and, ultimately, develop ideas into something concrete, be that a final, conceptual design or a patented product.

Organization: Initially, the club is divided into two categories – a short-term project and a long-term project.

The short-term project is broken up into five branches: Idea Development and Research, Design, Build, Market and Patent. Each of these branches allows a member to focus on a particular aspect of bringing an idea to life. These are aimed for people who do not have a lot of time to dedicate, who like to work on something with a quick turnaround, who want to learn the basics slowly or simply for those who want to work on their own project.

The long-term project is aimed for those who want to be part of an idea from beginning to end or who want to contribute to a final, finished product that will potentially be marketed and/or patented.

Leadership: The club will have a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, web master. The roles will be as follows:

President: Oversees the organization of the club, makes changes as needed, heads up the long-term project

Vice-President: Oversees the organization of the club with the president, heads up the short-term projects

Treasurer: handles financial aspect of club, researches and finds fundraisers, coordinates with presidents and proper campus officials on fundraisers and any and all other financial matters
