Submission Guidelines, Spring 2008
Spring Submission Deadline:
March 17th 11:59pm
All submissions MUST be submitted electronically to volition@gmu.edu
Due to a limited quota, our GMU e-mail box might reach full capacity, resulting in error messages during peak submission periods. If you receive an error message due to quota limitations, please forward your submission to volitionmagazine@gmail.com
All submissions must follow the following basic guidelines to be considered for publication:
Please attach all submissions via E-Mail. Within the E-Mail, please include your name and the title of your submitted piece(s). If the work is untitled, please indicate so by listing it as "No Title," or, "Untitled." Pen names/aliases are accepted, but please specify within the E-Mail which name you wish to use.
Do not include literary submissions within the body of the E-Mail. Acceptable file formats for literary works (poetry, prose) are: .txt, .doc, and .rtf. Please include your name and the title of your work(s) within both the E-Mail and the attached submission.
Here are some additional guidelines for each category of submissions:
Poetry
Each author is limited to up to five poem submissions for consideration. You may submit one poem, or five poems, or anywhere in between. We will not accept submissions greater than five poems.
Prose/Creative Nonfiction
Submissions are capped at a 2,500 word limit, so be sure to use your text document's "word count" feature before you submit. You may submit up to five fiction/nonfiction pieces for consideration.
Art/Photography
Each contributer is limited to up to five art pieces for consideration. All images MUST be 300 (or higher) dpi/ppi resolution as well as have appropriate dimensions for publication. If there are any questions regarding size, the general rule of thumb to follow is the larger, the better. Additionally, please note that we publish in black and white, so color submissions will be rendered to grayscale for publication. However, we usually run a cover contest, which may be printed in limited color.
For examples, please check out our back issues, or pick up the latest copy outside of our office located in SUB I (Room 204). Original work only. If you have any further questions, please direct them to volition@gmu.edu
