What is a Listserv?  An e-mail list of e-mail addresses of people with common interests. Software enables people who  belong to a list to send messages to the group without typing a series of addresses into the message header.  Usually members of the group in the listserv have to individually subscribe to or unsubscribe from the mailing list.

For faculty / staff to create a GMU listserv or ask questions about a listserv:

Send an email to listmgr@gmu.edu

Provide the name of the course or group for which you want the list.

To subscribe to a GMU Listserv:

Send an e-mail message :

TO: listproc@gmu.edu:

LEAVE THE SUBJECT BLANK.  Don't include any signature information.

In the message (body) portion of the e-mail, type

Subscribe(space)the name of the list(space)your full name.

For example, if it is a class list, type:

subscribe engl298-009 Jane Doe

[Replace the fictitious class name and section and person's name with the name of the list to which you want to subscribe and your full name.]

Please follow the exact format above.

Send the message.

You will receive an e-mail from the list processor saying you have been added to the list, with instructions to unsubscribe from the list. Save that message for future reference.
