Hak Mook Kim president's Biographycal Data

- Mr. Hak Mook Kim was born at a patriotic family in Korea on May 25, 1916.
- He graduated with a degree in B.A. from the Korea University, Seoul in 1938
where he majored in law. He earned his Master's degree in social work at the
University of Minnesota, U.S.A. in 1957. He observed British Social Security
System under UN program in 1950. In 1961, the Harding College, Arkansas, U.S.A,
vested him degree of Doctor of Laws for his distinguished services in the
fields of social justice.
- Since Dr. Kim started his social welfare career as a Public Welfare Officer
in 1938, he worked in the various branches of the provincial and national
government for more than twenty years until his last as the Vice Minister
of Health and Social Affairs, Government of the Republic of Korea in 1960,
to be inducted into the position of the Secretary General of the Republic
of Korea in 1960, to be inducted into the position of the Secretary General
of the Republic of Korea National Red Cross. He served for the opening the
dialogue between South and North Korea Red Cross Societies in 1972. He was
elected as Vice President of the Red Cross Society.
- Dr. Kim was elected as the president of the Korean National Council of Social
welfare in 1974. Now, he is one of the board members of the Council.
- Dr. Kim was elected as the first president of the Korean Federation of Medical
Insurance. He retired from the Federation in 1983.
- Dr. Kim, as a volunteer, has been keeping the office of the President of
Korean Society for the Cerebral Palsied since its organization in 1978.
- Dr. Kim also voluntarily serves many other voluntary organizations in the
fields of health, welfare, education, culture and employment including. He
is also a board member of the Korean employment promotion agency for the disabled,
a semi Government agency. He is the president of "Moogunghwa" Foundation for
the employment of the disabled of the disabled in Korea.
- Dr. Kim is one of the members of the Peaceful Unification Committee of the
Government of the Republic of Korea. He is the chairman of the Central Committee
of Rehabilitation work, Ministry of Health of Social Affairs, the Korea Government,
now.
- For many years, Dr. Kim has been teaching social work at many universities
in Korea. He is the author of "An Introduction to Social Work", which is the
first textbook of its kind published in Korea. He is a contributor to the
Korean periodicals and special publications in the field humanitarian services.
- Dr. Kim is the member of Korea Social Welfare Academy and also the Korean
Social Security Association. He was a charter member and the president of
Jong Ro Lions Club founded in 1965. Now, he is one of a member of the club.
- At the international level, Dr. Kim takes part in many international meetings
and organizations such as International Red Cross, ICSW, ISSA, the agencies
of International Community Development and also International Social Development.
He served the International Council on Social Welfare Executive Committee
for two terms beginning 1974. He presented the English papers at the conferences
of the Foreign Voluntary Agencies Associations in Korea and also the international
humanitarian conferences. He presided international meetings many times.
- Dr. Kim has been decorated by the president of the Republic of Korea in
1962 and also in 1987. He received Silver Bicentennial Medal from the U.S.Government
in 1976. He received the Humanity Medal from the Republic of Korea National
Red Cross in 1977.
- In 1986, the International Council on Social Welfare awarded it's first
Distinguished International Social Service Medal to Dr. Kim for his many years
excellent services. And he was awared a Woobong Service Prize by Korean Council
of Social Welfare in 1998.
- In 1995, at the 5th Conference of the Western Pacific Cerebral Palsy Association,
he was elected the first president of the Asian & Pacific Cerebral Palsy Association(APCPA)
which was renamed Western Pacific Cerebral Palsy Association founded in 1978.
