Computer Tower - The case of the computer. This holds all the parts in one area for installation.
Motherboard - The component that holds all the pieces together as well as connections. Without this, the computer cannot function.
Expansion Card - An expansion card can be any part that might improve the user's computer experience. Such cards are video cards, sound cards, and network cards. There are also many different types of slots, such as PCI, PCI-E, and AGB, to name a few.
Central Processing Unit (CPU) - Considered "the brain", the CPU interprets and executes most commands from the hardware and software of the computer.
Hard Drive - This part holds all the information that the computer needs to operate. The bigger the storage, the more information one can put on the computer.
Random Access Memory (RAM) - The main memory of the computer. The more the computer contains without exceeding the motherboard's capacity, the faster the computer can run and execute programs. Not to be confused with Read-Only Memory (ROM), which stores the basic startup programs.
Power Supply - Self-explanatory, the Power Supply will bring power to the motherboard, bringing life to the computer. Certain motherboards and other components require more powerful power supplies than usual.
Heatsink Fan - A fan that goes over the CPU on the motherboard. Without this fan, the CPU would overheat or possibly melt through the motherboard or itself!
A Disk Drive (CD, DVD, or CD/DVD) - Though not necessarily required, a disk or optical drive can assist with installing software or perhaps watching movies.
Mouse - A basic component to move the cursor on the monitor around. Depending on the type of mouse, there could be a ball in it or it can be optical. Not necessary for basic startup, but required for further endevours and easier access to objects on the monitor.
Keyboard - A must-have for a computer. Required to use in the BIOS of the computer, as well as many objects on the monitor.
Monitor - A screen that displays the information on the computer.
Speakers (optional) - As stated, completely optional to hear sounds from the computer. Videos can be heard and music can be listened to with such devices.
Internal Fans (optional) - Sometimes a CPU might heat up a little more than its used to, even with the Heatsink Fan. This could potentially damage the computer parts. However, a Internal Fan can help diminish the chances of this happening.
