Well, here's a rundown of what to expect: it's a 3 to 4 day event where people who share similar interests in that convention's theme gather and partake in various activities at the convention. These multi-day conventions are filled with all sorts of programming including but not limited to panels, autograph sessions, gaming centers, merchant rooms, contents, cosplay contests, etc.

This is a small 3 day anime convention that celebrates Japanese popculture, history, animation, art, etc.
New conventions have come to the NOVA area! These are the All Star Comic Con and the Fairfax Comic Con in Fairfax. All Star Comic Con happened in the Sheraton Tysons Hotel in Tysons Corner while Fairfax Comic Con happened in the Dulles Expo Center. These small conventions have arisen due to the popularity of another NOVA comic convention called Awesome Con.
The 20 year old Otakon that was once a thriving convention in the Baltimore Convention Center, has now moved to a new convention space at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center! This move has occurred due to concerns of outgrowing the space that the Baltimore Convention Center had provided.
Awesome Con has increased their lineup of celebrities to speak at panels or do autograph sessions during the convention. They have had actors from Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Doctor Who, Boy Meets World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, etc.
