Tim Berners-Lee

Date of Birth: June 8 1955

Current age: 69 years old

Tim Berners-Lee, born 8 June 1955, is a British computer scientist. Born in London, both of Tim's parents were computer scientists working on one of the earliest computers. Growing up, Tim was intersted in trains and had a model railway in his bedroom. He graduated from Oxford University and became a software engineer at CERN, the large particle physics laboratory in Switzerland.

He has made a tremendous contribution to computer science. He is known for being the creator of the World Wide Web. Additionally, he invented the HTML markup language, the URL system and HTTP.

As we all know, the World Wide Web is embedded in our day-to-day activities. It provides instant access to educational resources, news, research, entertainment and so much more. To make these webpages, we use the HTML markup language which was also another invention of Lee's. He also invented the URL which tells us about the webpages destination. And lastly, HTTP which is a protocol used to transfer content on websites.

In March 1989, Tim had proposed his vision for what would become the web in a document called, Information Management: A Proposal. This idea was quickly rejected and described as "Vague but exciting" by his boss, Mike Sendall. Although the web was never an official CERN project, Mike managed to give Tim time to work on it in September 1990. He used a computer called NeXT computer which is one of Steve Job's early products.

By October 1990, Tim had written the three fundamental technologies that remain the foundation of today's web,

As you can see, the inventions of Tim Berners-Lee can't go unnoticed and they will forever be rembered and utilized for the betterment of humanity.

Thank you, Tim Berners-Lee for all that you've done for the field of computer science!
