No, don't look at me like that, you read correctly; it's not a typo. Why, then, am I so obviously writing a page one the color green? It's because it's the underdog, that's why. I guarantee you most people would jump at the chance to study blue, or pink. Maybe even yellow or orange. But, if the lack of the color in clothing is anything to judge by, green is a color all agree is good, but no agree to love. Green may eternally be an underdog, just as I may eternally be switching between it and blue as my favorite-on the one hand wanting to support the side with no support, but on the other, just having fallen in love with blue.
People talk about blue all the time, anyway. We all know it's a calm color, for relaxing. It's the color people wear to job interviews, and the color associated with businesses and getting things done. But what about that poor color green? What does it mean to people? Does it differ from region to region? Let's take a look at this thouroughly underappreciated color.
In the United States , green is related to luck, especially in money, and so also deals with jealousy and greed. It also signifies nature, spring, inexperience, and illness. Just how do other countries view the color, however? Here are a few examples:
- In the United Kingdom , green sometimes indicates fidelity in marriage. It also signifies happiness and youth, as with the U.S., but also deceit
- In Japan , it's a very positive color, meaning regular and eternal life, and energy
- In South Africa , green represents nature, water and even the sky. Like the U.S., it also can indicate illness or being under-ripe
