The "advanced search" option in the Expanded Academic ASAP also allows you to specify fields and Boolean relationships (AND, OR, NOT, etc.), as well as type of source, range of dates, and specific journals. The results summary at the bottom of the screen shows that searching on "sherlock holmes" as a phrase in the text yields over 2,400 citations; connecting this (using the right-hand pull-down menu option AND) with "laurie king," a contemporary author who features the Holmes character in her novels, as a text word reduces the citations to 32. Note that this database treats adjacent words (like sherlock holmes) as phrases and, like most databases, is not case sensitive. |
