Barney
was my first television show as a kid. My crib was
decorated with Barney sheets. My room was decorated with Barney
décor. My parents took me to the Barney concert when I was 2 years old. Everyone
in this
generation grew up with knowing who Barney was. “Barney and
Friends” was a
television show that portrayed everything to be happy. Everyone was
friends
with each other and everyone had a happy family. You always have
something to
do, especially with your imaginary friend. When you are young, you
shouldn’t
know about all the bad occurrences of life because you
wouldn’t be able to
understand them.

Act 2 was one of my favorite movies. It really depicts
my life within church. I was in children’s choir for church,
and then moved up
to youth group choir. Church is always a place I feel is safe. If I
make a
mistake, I feel that Jesus will be the one that will wash my sins away.
He is
the one person I know will accept me for my wrong doings, no matter
what.
Church I feel is a place I can go when something goes wrong. Church
might not
necessarily take the pain away from something that went wrong in my
life, but
at least I know that I can pray to God asking him to protect me and
save me
from any more upsetting occurrences.

This is the song between my dad and me. For every special occasion where the main spotlight was on me, my dad and I danced to this song. I know that I am daddy's little girl, especially when my mom says it. My dad has always been there for me. He works hard to get me everything I want. Not only does he work his regular job as an EMT, but he also works weekends sometimes as a referee for soccer games. Throughout my life, he has done many things to make me laugh. He danced in a comical number every year for my dance recitals after my 5th year of dancing. He helped pay for every extracurricular activity that I was a part of, and he was there to see me participate in them too. He never missed an event of mine. Lastly, I knew it affected him that I was going away to college. He made the best of it though by taking me to every open house at Mason, and he would always have everything planned out. He helped me move in, and he made sure I was set with everything that I needed. No matter what, I know that with him, he will always be there for me. |

My mom is very close to me. Every day, she sends text messages saying that she misses me and loves me. Throughout my life, she has always supported me with anything that I did. She made sure my hair was nice, my nails were perfect, and I had the best clothes. Even though sometimes we don’t agree on styles sometimes, we still enjoy shopping together. She makes sure my room is clean, and that all my clothes are washed. She is also there emotionally for me. We are very alike in the sense that both of us are very emotional. Whenever she cries, I cry. We are able to connect very well with understanding each other. Along with my dad, she too was affected by me going away to college. When I came home for the first time, we both cried and laughed together for at least 30 minutes. It was also a surprise for her, so she wouldn’t let go of me for at least 5 minutes. When I came home, it was the best feeling ever because I really saw how much my mom cared about me. Truly, she is the best mom anyone can have. She is very supportive, and she will always love me. |

realize that not every day is a perfect day. However, many
times people use words to bring us down. As I grew up, I was made fun
of many
different times. Some reasons I was made fun of were because I
don’t drink, I
don’t wear jeans too often, and I smile too much. Nobody ever
accepted my real
personality because they just looked at qualities such as what I wore
or how I
looked. Each day though, I would keep my happiness up and I would
ignore
people’s comments. Now look at me, I am becoming more
successful than the
people that made fun of me. I am attending a better school than them.
They
acted like they were better than me, but in the end, I became the one
to
overcome their comments, and become better than them.

On
May 15th,
2007, my brother
unfortunately passed away from a rare form of leukemia that spread
within four
days. Until that day, the only other death that I experienced was my
grandpa’s
death when I was only 7 years old. I didn’t experience my
other grandpa’s death
or my grandmother’s death because I was only 1 year old when
they passed away. May
15th,
2007 was the worst day of my life. Everyone knows me as being
happy, but on this day, it all went away. For a whole week, I was just
in a
state of shock. Still to this day, I don’t want to accept
that my brother
passed away, especially because his death was so sudden. His death I
can
remember the whole week before and the whole week after with every
little
detail included. Experiencing a death of an immediate family member was
truly
first time that I realized life was not always going to be happy. I
learned
that life cannot be taken for granted because anything and everything
can be
taken away from you in one instance. This song that I chose reminds me
of him
every time I hear it. This song expresses all my feelings about what
happened
with my brother. My brother truly is my hero, not just because he was a
volunteer fireman, but because he is
my
brother, and nothing can ever change that. He was always there for me,
and if
someone tried to bother me, he would always be right there to defend
me. Now
that he is up in heaven, I know that he is watching over me every
single day
because he is my new guardian angel. I know he wouldn’t want
me to stop living
my life because of his death, so that is what inspires me every day to
stay in
college and graduate. I will follow my dreams with knowing that
someone’s
watching over me.

The Mets, especially Jose Reyes, are always something I look forward to every April. I love watching baseball. I love bringing out my Mets gear and accessories. I watch every game on television and cheer them on with my mom. Also, I will make sure to attend at least 2 games every season. I just love the Mets. Since there is going to be a new stadium, it has affected every Mets fan, and many New Yorkers. I can’t wait to see the new stadium, but I will also miss the old stadium. I have many great memories there. I got to run the bases when I was younger. I’ve attended many games, and seen much of history. I wish I could have seen a concert. All in all, I will greatly miss Shea Stadium, but I will always love the Mets. |

There is always a time in life when you will discover a mentor. My mentor just happens to be my chorus and theatre teacher Mrs. Wade. Not only has she taught me about Do Re Mi’s, but she has taught me many life skills too. When I first came into her class at the start of 10th grade, I was very shy. As school went on, she got me to come out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to great heights. If it wasn’t for her, there are just certain things I wouldn’t have been able to get through. Through singing, I was taught how to breathe correctly. Through acting, I was taught to reduce my lisp. Throughout school, I was taught how to have fun and live life to its fullest. She made me become such an outgoing person, and she also felt like a second mother to me during high school. I could go to her with any problem, and she would be able to fix it. She would be able to calm me down or make me laugh when I was upset. Also, we were also able to connect because both of us lost our brothers. When my brother passed away, I didn’t want to stay in my house, but I didn’t want to go to class either. Instead, I spent a whole week in her classroom, just helping her out with work, or taking a nap in the back of the classroom. She even took me shopping for black clothing because she knew I had none. One thing that I wanted to accomplish was getting my gold award. I kept putting off the project, but she finally got me back on track because she knew I really wanted it. Because of her inspiration, I will be receiving my gold award this June. I was able to stick with the project, and finish it off. She made my high school life very rewarding. After all that I have been through, she was the one person I could truly connect with and trust. |

college, it’s going to be a brand new
experience for me. Every so often, I might look at a guy or two. There
will
also be some of those nights where I will just want to hang out with my
girls.
I have had the chance to make some great friends being in college. With
my
friends Andrea, Kathryn, Kelsey, Lian, Rachel, we sometimes just want
to go out
and have a girl’s night out. When it is just the girls, we
talk about things
that we would never speak to any guy about. We talk about which guy we
like, or
comment on what we think of certain guys. We might go to a movie, or
even
shopping, but we just want to have fun. We like doing each
other’s hair and
makeup. We play games, and maybe even go to a party. Making close
friends is
something that will be good for the future too. My college friends are the greatest.

Throughout college I will work hard to achieve my dreams, and I won’t let anything stand in my way. I can’t wait for what is ahead of me, but that is what college is about. You don’t know what will happen next. Your only set goal that you have in college is to graduate.
