"Dorothy"
notices her areas that need improvement in schoolwork |
1. Of course I know how to read, or else I would not even be anywhere near this university. The part that I need improvement on is reading faster. I tend to read slow, which causes me to take a lot of time completing my homework. With all of the readings we were assigned, I have been able to improve my reading speed, but it still needs a lot of work. The one thing that I have come to realize through this semester is that the more practice I get with reading, the faster I'll be able to read. |
2. Spelling is one of my strong points in writing. However, vocabulary is a weak spot of mine. I have a large variety of vocabulary, but most of it does not include sophisticated words. After I improve my vocabulary, I will be able to sound more sophisticated in my writing. |
3. I have been able to grasp the overall concepts of readings, but I forget certain points of the reading that are important to know for class. I just recently realized that taking short notes on the readings for homework is very helpful. It makes me stay more focused and confident when participating in class. I still have to learn how to take good notes on the homework. |
4. Something else that I need to work on is stepping back within a group sometimes. I am a very independent person, which makes me tend to be a leader. I have, through much group work this semester, been trying to let other people make decisions. This does not mean that I cannot add my own incite to projects, but I just have to learn how to step back from the head spot. |
5. In class, I come up with some really good things to say. However, after I add a thought to the class discussion, I tend to lose focus for a little while. A way that I have learned to improve this situation is to look up more, even while taking notes. I can't always keep my face in my notes. |
