Doctoral Seminar: Final Reflection Paper

My journey through the semester

Has been a time of reflection of my past professional practices and a time of

Contemplation of my future thoughts.

Dr. Taboada discussed the importance of vocabulary. (Reflection)

Not something many mathematics teachers consider  – we’re all about numbers.

Right?  No – Wrong.

Dr. Isenberg discussed the importance of professional development. (Reflection)

Part of my job is leading professional development sessions for mathematics teachers.

Some teachers thought I had lost my mind when we did sessions on vocabulary importance.

Dr. Behrmann discussed informally the importance of working with faculty.

Search out those who have similar interests. (Future)

Who might have similar interests?

Professional Development. Student-Centered Learning. Graphing Calculator Technology.

I need to do more research, more time to think about where my interests really lie.

Where will all this lead me? (Future)

All of the speakers discussed in some manner their research, writing to share their research and

Their lives as an academic scholar.

I thought I knew what I wanted to do.

Mathematics Supervisor who coaches, mentors, and leads mathematics teachers to be facilitators of Student-centered classrooms.

Now, what about research and investigating new and interesting topics? (Future)

Just within our small cohort the opportunity to discuss our interests is enlightening.

It is a time to think.
