Mathematicians Can Write

Me, write? Put a calculator in my hand and speak at a conference in front a lot of people.

A little nervous, but I can facilitate the discussion and explain methodologies.

But me, write?

My desire! Working with teachers to create student-centered classrooms is my desire.

But it is handouts teachers desire of our sessions as a reference and guide.

So with my laptop I express the goals and objectives that teachers wish before they retire.

But me, write?

Sharing! The journal, Mathematics Teacher, is my source for ideas and activities.

I write and share the activities as well as lesson plans and conference presentations.

But me, well maybe I can write.

Writing? Dr. Debra Sprague states to try and try again, writing and rewriting.

Know expectations and guidelines of the chosen journal in a quest to share knowledge.

There are more words than math on the papers that express my passion in writing.

So, maybe I can write.

Writing! Dr. Sprague shared tips, stressing patience and knowing your audience.

Gather those ideas, research the questions in my head, and put them on paper.

I can write.

Take Action! I look at other journals and think about writing.

A mathematician’s written words can be understandable, applicable, worthy of reading.

Dr. Sprague stated that one can’t be a scholar unless you put yourself out there.

I WILL WRITE!!
