Summary:  In an earlier interview, Estela has stated that she feels very comfortable using many kinds of technology and also feels comfortable about her ability to convert her presentations to engaging online instruction. During the Usability Analysis conducted with Estela, we found that several aspects of the system including navigation and functionality need to be improved. The process of uploading material to the current version of T/TAC online is very difficult. Estela's overall experience was one of great frustration. She hopes that we will make her job easier with our enhancements to T/TAC online.
Information:
  • Estela found the initial “Web shop Development” pages to be clear.
  • She communicated that she interprets the first page to say “A Web shop is like a book"
  • Estela begins to add a Web shop titled “Boardmaker”
  • She feels comfortable filling in the ‘Title’ of the Web shop as well as the ‘Category’ and ‘Subcategory’ fields.
  • When she arrives at the field asking how long the Web shop will take, Estela says, “I have no idea” how long it could turn out to be, perhaps this should be asked at the end.
  • Instructions are not clear. After guessing the amount of time it will take, Estela is confused in what to do next. She finally selects “use template” to create a page.
  • Estela chooses the Template no.1 that has text and 2 images. She enters some text in the text box. She does not know where she is going to get the image for “browse for graphic”. She feels the need to be able to cut and paste a picture. She does not like that she is forced to chose a file that is saved to her HD.
  • At this point Estela is very confused about the process of creating a Web shop. She does not understand the context of where she is in the creation process.
  • She does not understand what “Enter caption for graphic” means.
  • She does not understand what “Enter Alternative text” means, she assumes it’s just text describing the graphic and enters something.
  • She does not understand what “Enter source for graphic” means.
  • She clicks on the “help” hoping for some guidance, but it is a broken link.
  • She realizes that after clicking on help, her selected graphic has disappeared.
  • She now just wants to add any graphic (not related to her Web shop) because she is just confused and frustrated. She proceeds to add a picture of her grandson.
  • She clicks on “Finish Module”. When asked why she chose that, she said “I am frustrated and just want to get done!”
  • Estela now selects Template no. 6 to add resources.
  • She enters the information (directions are clear) and clicks on “Done”.
  • She is now asked to evaluate the ease of the uploading process.
  • As she selects a choice for question 2, the previously selected choice for question 1 disappears! This continues with each selection.
  • Estela now clicks “Save and Publish” because she is finished her process. She says, “I guess it is done”. It gives no indication that it is saving or is done saving.
  • Estela now tries to use the Edit function in the Web shop.
  • She chooses to edit some text.
  • She clicks on the arrows below 3 times before figuring out what purpose they serve.
  • Estela goes on TTAC online to view her published Web shop. As she is viewing her Web shop she is taken over into another Web shop. (This must be investigated).
  • When asked, “how would you ‘edit’ your grandson’s picture”, she replied, “oh, that’s easy” and proceeded.
  • After quite a bit of searching, she finds the Web shop with her grandson’s picture, but does not know how she can edit or review her Web shop.
  • Finally, she is in the Edit function, but she is only given the option to ‘delete’ the picture. She is very frustrated.
  • Some buttons were cut off in Estela’s browser

Note: Estela’s PC is running on XP Professional 5.1 (1.020828-1920 service tag1)
    Estela is running IE 6.02
