T/TAC Project Group Status Report

Topics Covered:

Last week (February 19-23), TTAC design team started to develop use case models of TTAC Coordinators/trainers and service providers, including special education teachers. The team had thoughts regarding what needed to be added into use case model. The team found that the majority of the users of TTAC Online are special education teachers rather than TTAC facilitators; revisiting and reviewing previous use case models and fixing them are very crucial jobs. At the same time we thought about design implications based upon the users needs.

On Monday March 26th, Kate and Jim spoke to the TTAC design team and Shungbo about knowledge objects from two perspectives: a design and programming perspective. They also clarified the XML language and the limitations of the language without the integration of a database. Furthermore, Kate stated from a design perspective you have to ask two questions when considerin g learning objects; 1) How would I structure the object? 2)How would I use it?
Jim, the XML expert, drew the team a diagram to visually represent the workings of a learning object system. The team had a better understanding of the system.

Shungbo presented the team with functions for the TTAC website such as: search functionm, login function, email function. These mechanisms looked great. He also made some recommendations to Brenda about acquiring a SQL Server, on account of its speed and power (200 GB). Brenda indicated she would look into it. He also requested a structure of content was needed for him to integrate in his framewrok.

Last week, we started uses cases for the following: Ask an Expert, Uploading Content, Registration, Log on, FAQ, Referring a Friend to the WebSite, Submission Forms, Resource Library Page and E-Mail a Friend. This week we revisited the use cases and realized overlaps among use cases and extensions that needed to be added to certain use cases.

On Tueday the 27th we met with Peter Hage from Mindlever, who gave a presentation on the online delievery system and how they use learning objects within their learning management system.
