Notes:                         Amie, Carmen, and Kay were glad to meet the design project team to discuss creating
an interactive T/TAC Online Community. The followings are the main issues we discussed.

The contents that T/TAC Online could be covered:

·        The content of the T/TAC Online will be focused on various topics related to special education
eventually, however, T/TAC project team were decided to start the content related to AT first.
The challenge is how to represent and categorize the subtopics online.

·        The content might be organized by categories such as behavioral problems or aggression,
transition, communication, curriculum (reading, writing, organization study strategies/skills,
science and social studies, math).  TTAC reps stated that we want to communicate strategies
online for the service providers.

·        The content should cover Information and resources for special education teachers

Information (Hot Topics):

·        Carmen stated that LD Online.com provides a wealth of research-based information.

Creating a discussion section:

·        Creating a discussion section among T/TAC facilitators and also between T/TAC facilitators
and special education teachers in T/TAC Online Community was discussed.  (ex) bulletin board
 (asynchronous discussion group)

·        However, if there is a specific or personal issue, T/TAC facilitators wanted to talk about the issue
 via phone and not online.

·        There is a listServe based out of Virginia Tech with 250 subscribers.  The subscribers include
teachers and TTAC. This communication mechanism might be an effective model for the website.

·        Amie stressed that the content should be descriptive and prescriptive, for example, what is
Boardmaker and how to use it.

Next Steps:

·        Receive permission to participate and reserve a table for a TTAC sponsored workshop about ‘mild disability’,
which meets March 24th, 2001.  A suggestion was to generate a survey for special education teachers to get
their opinion.  200 teachers are expected to attend the workshop. Design Team should contact Shannon for
permission to participate.

·        Contacting Sharon Siler and Irene Walker (Virginia Institute for Positive Behavioral Support) to get more
information and resources.

·        Amie, Carmen, Kay and Region 4 personnel will collaborate to identify a categorical structure for content.
One rep will meet with design team in approximately 2 or 3 weeks.
