Duty 10: End-of-Shift Activities

Learner will demonstrate how to conduct efficient and thorough end-of-shift activities. Learner will also explain job duties, why they are conducted, any associated risk, and how to implement appropriate controls. Thorough knowledge and best practices of a pre-shift examination includes the following steps:

 

  1. Start filling out production report (Record keeping)
  2. Communicate with oncoming shift foreman upon arrival (Training Responsibilities)
  3. Assemble men at dinner hole (Training Responsibilities)
  4. Travel to mantrip
  5. Exit mine
  6. Wash boots
  7. Tag out (Training Responsibilities)
  8. Put cap lamp on charge
  9. Report to foreman’s office
    1. Fill out all reports (Record keeping)
      1. Place reports in designated area (Record keeping)
      2. Record smoke search (weekly) (Record keeping)
      3. Record 6 week firefighting/escapeway book (Record keeping)
      4. Record 90-day SCSR drill (Record keeping)
    2. Complete pre-shift/on-shift report (Record keeping)
      1. Countersign fireboss book (Record keeping)
      2. Record bolt torque (Record keeping)
      3. Record any hazards and action taken (if any) (Record keeping)
    3. Pay employees (Record keeping)
    4. Update mine map (Ventilation/Roof and Rib control/ Record keeping)
      1. Show track advancement (Record Keeping)
      2. Show belt advancement (Record Keeping)
      3. Show 12’ bolt installation (Record Keeping)
      4. Show brattices built and any doors installed (Record Keeping)
      5. Show power center advancement (Record Keeping)
      6. Correct any map errors observed (Record Keeping)
    5. Put Gas Detector on charge (Ventilation)
    6. Exit mine properly
