Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

For my tours at the Hirshhorn, I start at the bust of Joseph Hirshhorn in the lobby. This allows the tour to be introduced with a history of the museum. I then proceed to the 3rd floor. Movements such as Realism, Cubism, Futurism, biomorphic abstraction, Art Deco, Surrealism, Post-War Abstraction, and contemporary art are featured there:

First, Hopper, as well as a discussion about modern American art and realism. I punctuate this point with a Sloan, and mention the "Ash Can" School. We have a work with the ash can burning, so I point it out!

Moving past Picasso, I point out one of his sculptures, and discuss cubism. Once we've covered the circuit of the 3rd floor, I move down to the lower level for a discussion of contemporary art. There are always new, interesting pieces down there.
