The Analysis

     The microworld has been designed to provide the following analytical data for any construction made within the Prototype Environment. The results appear in a dialogue box on the interface.

Structural Properties
and Structural Integrity

  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Span characteristics (i.e., supports needed, placement)
  • Rigidity
  • Malleability
  • Installation parameters: forces generated by weight of sculpture
  • Optimal thickness (i.e., hollow, solid, paper-thin walls, 1/8-1/4 inch, etc.)

General Analysis

  • Structural feasibility
  • Structural integrity
  • Weakness or stress points
  • Stress factors till break point
  • Necessary span or support points

Installation Parameters

  • Best materials for curvilinear, best materials for right angles, etc.
  • Cost of material per cubic inch/foot
  • Best tools for sculpting that particular surface
  • Installation parameters: forces generated by weight of sculpture
  • If possible to hang in certain space, atrium, etc.
  • What rigging to use

Material Recommendations

  • List outcome of material recommended: Most to lease feasible
  • Generate specs in various materials
  • Determine unit cost per material
  • Determine sources
