Tips for the General Evaluator

To Prepare for the Meeting

Contact the Toastmaster first
You should call the Evaluators, the Time/Vote Counter and the Grammarian to confirm their role.
The Toastmaster should confirm with the remaining participants.
You and the Toastmaster should decide which Evaluator should be paired with which Speaker.
Try to match a more senior member, who is experienced and good at inspiring speakers, as Evaluator to a newer member Speaker.
Give newer members experience in evaluating by matching them to more experienced speakers who are accustomed to being evaluated.
Contact the evaluators.
Tell the Evaluators who they will be evaluating so that they may call the speaker with any preparations needed.
If you know in advance, it is also helpful to tell the Evaluators which manual speech the speaker is preparing

During the Meeting

Take notes throughout the meeting on your observations for your report.
Make sure your Timer/Vote is familiar with and can operate the Timing machine.
Help the Grammarian post the "Word of the Day"
Make sure that you evaluators get the manuals of the speakers whom they will evaluate.
When you are called to take over the second half of the meeting, first explain the purpose of an evaluation.
As you introduce each of the evaluators, you may wish to reiterate the goals of the speaker's speech.
After all of the evaluations, ask everyone to vote for Best Evaluator
You may choose to give your evaluation of the meeting before or after you call for the Timer and Grammarian reports - waiting until after these reports, however, allows you to evaluate their reports as well.
When you give your report - everyone is fair game to the General Evaluator!!!
