As TV has progressed into everyone's lives during the years the question of appropriateness of programming has changed too in time. Channels such as PBS have educated our youth for many years. But so have profit channels such as CNN, Discovery, and TLC. Though an effort is always made to support public television, it fails to keep its neck above water because of the public funding. Profit broadcasting should take over the entire broadcast for various reasons. Though Public Broadcasting has helped our youth in educating them, they still have the commercialism to them. Shows such as Sesame Street, Teletubbies and Magic School Bus all have been commercialized into products for kids to purchase but where does all this money go? If it really went back to the channel, then they would not be struggling to support themselves by having telethons and such.
Commercial channels such as TLC and Discovery make money on advertising as well as educate people. It does the job of 2 channels in one. Many creators of education shows that are non-profit are primarily concerned with teaching, while the commercial education shows are also concerned with teaching but also make money in the process, creating a cycle. By gaining more money, the creators can create more shows that educate people. It only makes sense to get rid of non-profit channels.
