What does that sentence mean?

• We wanted to find out the proportion of the population that “yes” had egg spots.

• We couldn’t drain the whole Gulf.

• So, we settled for examining a SAMPLE.

• The sentence says that on the basis of that sample, somewhere within the range .80 +/- .09 is the proportion of the POPULATION that “yes” has egg spots.

• That is, the proportion of furu in the population with egg spots is somewhere from .71 to .89.
