Hello! I am Lanita McCullerses. I take delight in learning new things and attempting to put that knowledge to good use. I also enjoy good food, good music and hanging out with good people. Having all of these things in place equates to the Good Life!
Bio
Education
I have studied a great many things in school, including but not limited to programming, engineering, psychology, and visual design. I enjoy finding the intersections between diverse fields. Currently I am studying Human Factors Psychology and Usability in order to pursue a career in User Experience Research.
Career
I have worked in higher education administration since 2008. Approximately 6 of those years have been working in financial aid. I currently work in the Office of Student Financial Aid at George Mason University. I have seen first-hand the struggles students have in understanding their financial aid awards, and more importantly how to handle money in their everyday lives.
Hobbies and Interests
I always like to say my favorite hobby is making NEW hobbies! I believe in allowing myself to try anything that seems interesting. I do not force myself to commit to one activity because some of the most creative moments come from weaving in and out of seemingly disparate activities. It forces your brain to think in new ways. Some of the hobbies I have acquired over the years are: drawing, painting, sewing, rock climbing and cooking.
Beyond my hobbies, I also take interest in a wide range of topics such as the social and ethical impacts of artificial intelligence, sustainability and environmental impacts of rampant consumerism, and increasing financial literacy in minority groups. It is important to me that I always use my knowledge and skills to improve the lives of the people around me and the people that will exist after me. We have the ability to make changes now in our consumption and waste that can affect whether this world is habitable for years to come.
