Gang Zhou received her Ph.D in Comparative Literature with an emphasis on Modern Chinese Literature from the University of California, Davis in 2003.  Her dissertation is entitled “Language, Myth, Identity: the Chinese Vernacular Movement in a Comparative Perspective.”  Her research interests include East-West literary relations, traveling theory, language and society.  Her essay entitled “The Chinese Renaissance: a Transcultural Reading” has been accepted by PMLA.  She is also involved in co-editing a critical volume entitled “Other Renaissances,” which examines how the term “renaissance” was used and appropriated in various geo-political contexts other than Europe. 

 

She has taught Chinese language classes at all levels for many years.  Teaching has been her profession and her enjoyment.  Her teaching interests include Modern Chinese literature, Contemporary Chinese film and Writing Women in Modern China.
