Semester: Spring 2015
ENGH 315 - Folklore & Folklife
Instructor: Joy Fraser
ENGH 315 introduces students to the vastness of Folklore. What is folklore? It a simple enough question, but the answer expands the understanding past traditional beliefs. This course engages a student to interpret folklore in their own lives. Topics include but are not limited to ethnicity, environment, family, traditions, rituals and ceremonies. This course is designed for potential Folklorists, Creative Writing majors and any student interest in the importance of informal processes of learning.
Paper Assignment
Cold Stone Creamery Occupational Report
The course was reading and writing intensive, with quizzes. There were three papers, but the major paper nearing the end of the semester was Occupational Folklore. It asked students to do extensive research on an occupation and the norms and habits that surrounded the employees. Students also had to provide a visual in class to present their project. The paper was turned in the day of the project.
