Conservation Biology Paper Instructions:
____________________________________________________________________________
General:
The paper is an analysis of the conservation status of the species you have been assigned. Such an analysis should cover a wide range of topics about the biology and history of the species as well as critiques of ongoing steps related to preventing its extinction. This analysis will be the basis of a presentation to the class. The classroom presentation will not be allowed unless your paper is received on time (see syllabus).
Format:
The paper may not exceed 12 pages of text. All figures and tables should be placed at the end of the document. Bibliography, figures and tables do not qualify as part of the 12 pages of text. The body of the paper should be double spaced. In the bibliography single space each reference and leave a blank line between references. Use one inch margins and a 10 point font. In the text references should be cited (Authors Last Name, year). Where multiple references are used citations should be given in chronological order. For publications with multiple authors do not list all of the authors names, use et al. If figures and/or tables are included the source should be given below the figure. I reserve the right to refuse to grade papers that do not meet these formatting instructions.
Sections to include:

Biology and ecology of the Species (including systematics, food habits, reproduction, habitat preferences, competitors, predators)
Current status (current distribution of species and estimates of numbers. Include information on captive propagation if applicable)
Causes of decline/threats to survival
Research needs (what information is needed to improve analysis and/or chances of survival)
Conservation/Recovery Plan (make your own based on your research and critique any existing plans)
