BIOL 305: Biology of Microorganisms*

Textbook: Tortora et al./Microbiology, an Introduction.

     Your COURSE GRADE will be determined by the total points earned on the three exams @ 20% each and the
     comprehensive final @ 40%.  Grades will be curved based on the class average, which is a C, by definition.

Grade Scale: A,A-,B+,B,B-,C+,C,D,F.

It is impossible to get a good understanding of the lecture material just by reading the lecture notes.  Read the textbood to get a good overview of the lecture topics and to better understand specific topics covered in lecture.  However, you are not responsible for topics covered in the text but not in the lecture.
                               EXAMS ARE BASED ON LECTURE MATERIAL! ! ! ! !

You will find that the Textbook authors' Website  contains a number of useful study aids including interactive quizzes.
The objective questions are very similar to those you will encounter on the lecture exams.

If class is cancelled for any reason on an exam day, it will be given at the next regularly scheduled meeting.  There will be no make-ups.  Students who miss an exam will be required to answer extra questions on the final exam to make up the deficiency.

*Students are required to initiate their WebCT BIOL 305 account to obtain essential course information. The WebCT site provides lecture notes to bring to class as well as access to learning tools and study guides.  These are not meant to be aTo initiate your WebCT account, go to http://gmu.edu:8904.   When prompted, enter your login ID (your gmu email address without the @gmu.edu suffix).  Your password is the last four numbers of your student number.  If you enroll in the course late the class list may not be up-to-date and your account will not have been established.  Check again on the first day of class.  If you need additional help go to GMU's WebCT Resource Center:
