Go. Fly. Be Free.
Welcome
graduating class of 2008, parents, family, friends, and honored guests.
I want to begin by thanking the seniors for choosing me to give their
graduation speech. It is truly an honor to try and find something
inspirational to tell you on the night of your graduation. To find
something that you will remember for the rest of your life. But let's
be honest. I don't remember my high school graduation speech, let alone
the speaker. Actually, I don't remember anything from that night. And
if you ask half the people in this room they probably don't remember
either, and if they say they do, they're lying.
So I'll go with the assumption that at least you guys will remember me,
because I know I have warped your minds enough over the past three
years to guarantee that. For as what I have to say, don't worry about
it, it's just me babbling and being the center of attention like always.
So with that pressure off, sit back and relax. Instead of something
inspiring, I'm going to give you some advice.
1. Take a shower every day, even if you think you don't need it.
2. Don'e ever give up.
3. From my mother-in-law; never wear stretchy pants, because then you
won't know that you're getting fat.
4. Know your friends for who they are, and you'll never be disappointed.
5. Do yoga.
6. Drive slow, you have something important to give to this world.
7. Wear sunscreen, otherwise your skin will look like leather by time
you are 40.
8. Forgot about what you are now. What do you want to become?
9. Recycle.
10. Always try and be happy.
One last piece of advice, don't ever regret anything you have done in
your life, because it has made you, who you are today. If you make a
bad mistake or a poor choice in the future, I encourage you to own up
to your fault, make it right, apologize, or all three. But every
hardship, every obstacle, every accomplishment, every reward, every
boring day of your life has made you who you are today. Be proud of who
you are, because every one in this room is proud of you.
As I look upon each of you, I see individuals. I see seven graduates
that are as unique and different as they come. Each one of you has
there own personality and style that cannot be repeated or duplicated.
And each one of you should stand proud and confident of who you are and
what you have become.
I see courage. Each one of you has experienced hardships and obstacles
throughout your life that no one else in this room or this world will
ever fully understand or grasp. Your hardships may have scarred you,
but you overcame them and they made you a better and stronger person.
I see hope. Hope for the future and what you want to become. I can see
the dreams in your eyes and hear the excitement in your voices. The
world is yours to mold and shape how you want it to be. So take all of
your life experiences, your individuality, your courage, and your hope,
and make this world a better place for all of us.
Your parents, family, friends, and teachers have prepared you for the
future. We all have taught you and guided you to this moment. We all
have shown you and shared with you all the knowledge we have for you to
be successful and happy in this life. We all believe in you, your
dreams and all of your future success.
So graduates of 2008:
