PROGRAM RATIONALE:

Completing Master’s degrees in Educational Psychology and Social Foundations of Education have given me a broad background in the psychological, historical, philosophical and anthropological aspects of education. In order to achieve my goal of becoming a researcher and a professor of science education, I need to complement my background with courses in science education and research methods.  Since I am a declaring a science education major, my program in science education has been previously organized and approved by the School of Education.

Having a minor in research methods will allow me to acquire the appropriate broad and deep background in qualitative methods, quantitative methods, and design-based research.  EDIT 797, Research Strategies in Inquiry Science, will provide field experience in planning research, gathering data, analyzing data, and presenting results from a design-based research perspective.  In addition to the research method requirements in the program, EDRS 810, EDRS, 811, EDRS 812, and EDRS 821, I plan to take six additional credits in advanced methods, EDRS 820 and EDRS 822, to complete my minor area of study.  In focusing deeply on science education and research methods, I will be well-equipped to pursue a career as an academic in the field of science education.
