Module 1-2
- 1a. www.google.com, "Google" 1b. Google appeared because I am using Google Chrome for my browser. I can make another page as my default by going to Settings, Search Engines, and clicking on any other search engine page as my default.
- 2. No, you can't because the font size is defaulted in the coding of that page, so only the web designers who created that page can change it.
- 3. The default search engine associated with my web browser is Google. I have to open my browser and type in www.google.com as the URL in the browser search line.
- 4a. I got 319,000,000 results in .44 seconds. About less than half of the searches relate to it. 4b. I got 33,600 results in .29 seconds. It seems like only the first page relates to it.
- 5. The hits are not consistent across search engines. I think what accounts for the differences is the wording of the topic being searched and it links to certain words in a phrase. I would look at Bing and/or Yahoo because I'm most familiar with those sites besides Google than the other ones. I also think whichever hits are first or on the first page, those are the most popular and best results.
- 6. I would refer to this website more as a quantiative search for statistics and numbers as oppose to a generic search engine for facts, articles, and information.
- 7a. The main difference is that a metasite sends the user to other search engines or databases and it allows the user to search these engines simultaneously, whereas a regular search site sends the user directly to the information or page they need. 7b. These search engines do not specify how many hits I got for the phrase. They both come up with the exact same websites but in a different order. 7c. A lot of the sites are about learning web design or building a website using different templates rather than building an actual page itself.
- 8a. There are 16 search pages for this phrase on Mamma. The matches are organized by specific sites about html, text, structure, and design. They are also referred to as ads instead of results. 8b. Mamma differs from the 2 previous search engines because these hits are not as generic as building or creating a web page or a website. As mentioned before, these hits are specific to fonts, texts, structures, and designs of a page, not actually how to create one using a template.
- 9a. Yes. 9b. Multimedia player, design, message, products, downloads, audio controller, definition of multimedia. 9c. I typed in Your Love, and I got 2,100,000,000 results in bing. 9d. No.
- Web Hosting Sites: 10. I would use Webs: A Vistaprint Company site because it is on the top 10 list of free hosting sites and it seems the least bit complex to create a site for a business. It is a great hosting site for personal, professional, and online information and it seems easy to follow to sign up with only using your email address. Pricing starts from free when first building a site, then ranges to $16.67 a month for online store use. It does not require any technical knowledge and you can also create a blog for the site.
