Instructions for obtaining Salford Systems software

Go to the Salford Systems web site, and using the menu under Products on the left, go to the web pages for each of CART, MARS, TreeNet, and RandomForests. On each page you should see a place to click to download a trial version of that product.

Initially the trial versions are good for 3 days. To make them last for 90 days, carefully send them the ID numbers that you should get (one for each of the four products, each specific to your computer) in an e-mail message to unlock@salford-systems.com having the subject line: Prof. Sutton student --- request for unlock codes. If you fail to use the proper subject line, the unlock codes may only make the software good for 30 days (since, I believe, that is their standard time period for evaluation). Please send just one e-mail message to request all four unlock codes (and note that the four ID numbers will be different). I had to send them a list of names of the students in the class, and so make sure that you use an e-mail address (like your GMU address) that indicates your name properly, so that it will match your name as it is officially spelled at GMU.

Note that each student can only install the software on one computer, so choose carefully. If something happens to your computer during the course of the semester, or if you don't have a computer to install the software on, then you can perhaps use it in a room in the Central Module that our teaching assistants use. (I should be around to open the door for you most every Mon-Thur from 2 PM to 11 PM, and at various afternoon, evening, and night hours on Saturday and Sunday --- but you should make a specific appointment with me so that I can be there to let you in.)

Although it may not be until June 16 or June 21 before I start teaching about the Salford Systems software, I strongly encourage you to download the software and send a request for the unlock codes (using the proper subject line, as indicated above) within the next few days. (Again, please just send one message to requeast all four unlock codes at once, carefully sending them the four different ID numbers.)

If you encounter difficulties downloading the software (some students have downloaded one or more of the products successfully, and then had trouble downloading the others (I think due to a problem at Salford System's end)), try sending e-mail describing the problem to Jason Kadarusman (e-mail address: jkadarusman@salford-systems.com).
