Virginia Voting Information
- Before you vote, you must register to vote
- If you haven't registered, you can same-day register and cast a provisional ballot.
- University students residing in VA:
- can choose to register at your college address or permanent VA address
- for a non-VA permanent address, see rules for other jurisdiction
- in any given year, you can only vote in one place for the November election
- Where you vote and which offices you can vote for depend on your address
- You can cast a ballot to vote:
- in person on election day
- in person during the early-voting period
- with an absentee ballot mailed to or dropped off at election office

Virginia Offices Up For Election
Though elections for the Virginia governor and state house were last year, in 2022 Virginians vote for all Virginia members of the US House of Representatives, as well as local candidates such as mayors, town council members, and school board members. Neither VA member of the US Senate are up for election this year. You can find candidates at: Candidate Lists.Congressional Districts and Major Party Candidates
Virginia Congressional Districts (see above map) were recently redrawn, so you may not be in the same district as before. The map also shows major-party candidates for each seat. The races in Districts 2 and 7 are considered close by the nonpartisan Ballotpedia.
