| I compare National Beta Club to Robert Putnam's theory of social capital; because students in this
club had to have high G.P.A’s to stay in it. The connection between high G.P.A
and social capital is when people in a community are highly active then crime
rates may go down because the people within the community will work hard to
prevent criminal behaviors, and children within the community may high higher
grades, because they will most likely not be involved in criminal actives. Many
students stayed in BETA club, because they had positive influences all around
them, and they were also interacting with goal oriented people. This led many
of the students to make positive decisions such as keeping their grade point
averages high. This club helped me to interact with people with the same
interests as me, because everyone in BETA wanted to make a better person out of
their selves and make society a better place to live in. I feel like this club
really helped in shaping me to become an effective citizen, because it kept me
on a good path, by exposing me to others with the same interests as me such as:
school and volunteering. It also set out rules that if grades began to lower then
membership will be declined, so knowing that enabled me to focus on my goals
and continue to work on bettering myself as an effective citizen. |
