Sense of Community

Being a part of the field hockey team has given me a feeling of belonging, and it has also allowed me to create a special bond with my teammates. I am able to feel a sense of community with my teammates, because they understand me and they try to help me get better. In addition we share a bond even outside of the field, where we can just joke around with each other telling inside jokes that only me and my teammates know about. Feeling a sense of community relates to the book “An Enemy of the People” by Henrik Ibsen. Dr. Stockman wanted the general public to know about the Baths, because he cared for their health, but when his brother the mayor was standing in his way he lost his feeling of sense of community, and that lead him to stand alone and distances himself from his community. I feel like this is a good course text example, because it made me realize that field hockey pulled me closer to the community, rather than distancing myself like Dr. Stockman did in the play. It also, gave me that sense of belonging so I could keep my spirits high and my head up through sports.

Triangle One made me feel a sense of community because I was able to bond with my group members and interact with them one on one during community service activities. By building bonds with others has allowed me to engage more in my community and participate more often even outside of school, because I am comfort with the people around me.

Student Government made me feel a sense of community, because I felt a sense of belonging by bonding with others who had the same interests as me such as: working to improve our school, community, demonstrating acts of leadership, and taking a stand on things one strongly believes in.
